Full Profile
Making his debut appearance in 1990 DJ Thief molded his way into the dance scene by playing Old Skool Hip House / Italio House and Break beat. Over the next year Thief steadily etched his name into the Brisbane dance scene and so it was during these days that the true vinyl addiction of DJ Thief surfaced. However, playing the music just wasn't enough for Thief and so he created his first concept club "Magic Roundabout" which he and several friends put on weekly at "Metropolis" on the basement level of the Myer Centre and pumped out all the monster tunes of the time. This was the start of a life long obsession!

If you haven't heard the name DJ Thief then where the hell have you been? Obviously you've not been to the right gigs or maybe you've just taken too many mind-altering substances and your minds shot to hell. If this is you then open your ears and 'Listen Up'. If this isn't you then have a gander anyway.
Thief moved with the times and played the scene though the 92' Hardcore sounds stealing appearances at all major rave and dance festivals as well as holding down residencies at all of Brisbane's prominent clubs such as Rhythm Zone in 1991, Insomniac in 1992, The Globe 1993, The Site 1994 and Hard drive @ The Tube in 1995. By 1996 Thief had moved his style more into the Techno / Trance sound and by '97 he was playing hard house - the beginning of today's NuNrg and a story of local domination.

The scene suffered a blow in late '95 when Brisbane's largest venue, the infamous "Site" night club was condemned and closed down for good which left a lot of devoted clubbers no where else to go and listen to underground music, This gave Thief another dose of itchy feet and so he formed his own club which was started in the smallest room of the Arena (previously the Roxy) namely System 6. The Club began weekly on Friday and Saturday nights which boasted a small amount of devoted clubbers and 6 very devoted DJ's as well as this he continued to make his mark in the Brissy scene by continuing to play at all the big raves such as Strawberry Fields, Nasa, Infinity and Adrenalin.

Thief continued to build System 6 from strength to strength and by 98' / 99' was bringing up the country's best live acts and DJ's on offer for guest appearances. Crowd numbers continued to grow so it was time for System 6 to move from the cocktail bar into all 5 rooms of the venue and from there it was inevitable that this club was destined to become the underground super club of Brisbane.

DJ Thief can attribute many accolades to his name. He continually pushed the underground sound that he so strongly lived for by releasing over ten mixed tapes which evidently sold out quicker then you can say hardcore and as if this wasn't enough Thief founded two of Brisbane's most loved dance parties Overdrive, and the well remembered Recharge series, making him a somewhat pioneer of our scene as we know it and love it today.

Thief has continued his plight to be at the top and has made his way to London and Scotland and more recently Japan and New Zealand.

He has built System 6 to not only Brisbane's leading club night but Australia's premier Club starting System 6 up in Adelaide and also Perth and by joining these cities closer together has made it possible for our System DJ's to tour interstate and vise versa.

With System 6 now in four cities across Australia Thief has been able to co-ordinate tours to bring the hottest UK, German and Japanese talent to our shores and you never know what he will come up with next.

This man has taken a simple vinyl addiction and turned it into a legacy.

Bio Continued
DJ Thief started collecting Vinyl back in 1988 around the Acid house and Hip house era and was a regular Raver at parties like Club Transformers. It wasn't until 1990 that his ambitions to DJ were realized when he and a friend started their own weekly club night called Magic Roundabout. As to how his DJ name came about, it was at one of those club nights, but I'll let the man himself tell you. "A prominent dance musik tabloid had fronted up to our event and presented them selves, asking us what the night was called and who we were.
At that stage we weren't really thinking about Club names let a loan DJ names so we looked at the record that was playing and said the night was called "Magic Roundabout" and my mate was quick to say 'Oh DJ Kristian'. Thoughts were running through my head 'oh no my 1st name will really suck as a DJ name and even more would my last name' so I quickly spat out DJ Thief cause it's related to my last name. At the time all my friends laughed at me and when the next magazine issue was out it was in black an white and I've been stuck with it ever since".

After many years of pumping Wednesday nights and playing at most of the monthly dance parties around town, Thief and a few of Brissy's other local crew were out of work, and on approaching the kick'n club at the time were told that their musik was too hard and that they wanted to stick to their own boring format. So they decided to start their own weekly club. And Thus SYSTEM 6 was born and a new generation of rave parties had begun. "It wasn't all guns and roses to start with either, for the 1st couple of years we used to have one massive night a month and all the rest were as dead as one of Odysseys farts, so we decided to move it to a monthly event and it went instantly from 200 dedicated hardcore fans to a 2000 Raver friendly, 5 room monthly massive steam rolling rave, which it still is today. And we still have a hardcore zone in the club with the same room still playing hardcore where the System started back in 1996".
Thief's style has changed over the years but there is still that underlying harder edge to his sound that is uniquely Thief. "I like to play across the board. Everywhere in Aus has its own sound and you have to take that into consideration when leaving your home town". If you're in Brissy or Adelaide you can catch him playing what he describes as NuNrg, Freeform and Hardhouse. Sydney is on the harder end of things too where as if your in Melbourne or Cairns you'll catch him playing allot of trance.

Over the years Thief's style has changed many times but there has always been that harder edge to his set's that has him ranked as one of Australia's Best Hard Dance DJs. In the late eighties he started playing Hip House through to Italio House in 1991. Then came the Break Beat and Hardcore era, which lasted till around 1995. At this time Thief's style moved into Techno Trance and by 1996/97 had moved yet again into Nu NRG and then Hard House, something you'll still find him playing today.

Wondering what else this techno energized mental case has got in his basket!
1996 saw the collapse of 'The Site'; one of the biggest club's in Brisbane history, leaving only the smaller club's to fill the gap. They weren't really up to the job of filling a sorely missed and much needed area of the local scene with the result being that Brissy had a whole community of ravers with no where to go. Not a fantastic state of affairs really. What were they to do? Was this the end of the world?

It was around this time that DJ Thief (charging to the rescue) decided to form his own club 'System 6' which started out in one of the side rooms of the Roxy as a weekly, weekend club. The musical theme for these parties was the 'then' hugely popular hard Core (Happy Hard to Hyperspeed) style.

In 1997 having easily survived through a change of ownership, as the Roxy became the Arena, Thief founded the hugely successful Recharge series of parties, which was one of the bigger parties in Brisbane. It was good news on all fronts with System 6 still continuing to grow more popular with a local line up second to none.

For the 1st couple of years their used to be one massive System night a month and all the rest were fairly dead, so it was decided around 1998 to move it to a monthly event. It went instantly from 200 dedicated hardcore fans to a 2000 Raver friendly, 5 room monthly massive steam rolling rave, which it still is today. The next few years saw System go from strength to strength with some of Australia's best live acts and guest DJs added to the already hugely popular local crew.

From 1999 to the present day International DJs have been making guest appearances at virtually all the System parties. Some of the DJs that have played at System 6 over the years include DJ Jon Langford, Karim, Scott Brown, DJ Hixxy, Sharkey, Kevin Energy, Chris C, DJ Brisk, Crul-T, Ed Real, Ian M plus many more including our very own super star LIVE PA duo Nil Vs Miss Tracy. How can we forget System regular DJ Johnny RR Fierce who sadly passed away in December of 2001 while touring here in OZ. Both DJs and punters alike will sorely miss the man.

The good word is spreading far and wide with most of the guys that come out from the U.K telling Thief their blown away by his parties and the response they get from the crowd'. Word of mouth is quickly getting around that Oz is the place to go and that System 6 is the party to play, plus they get to see the sun.

From the humble beginnings of 6 or 7 years ago System 6 seems to have turned into an unstoppable machine ready to take on everything that's thrown at it. With parties springing up in Sydney, Melbourne and Syst'O Adelaide going mental thanks to good friend DJ Odyssey, who knows where they'll spring up next. The rumour factory has at least a couple of overseas parties happening sometime in the near future.

With all this achievement it's good to know that he's learned from and been inspired by some of the best in the business with him citing DJs Jon Langford, Scott Brown, Hixxy and of course the late RR Fierce as being among his favourites. Of course there are many more but the list is just massive! Thief's done his fair share of traveling too with a visit to the UK and Scotland for quick 14-days and 4 gigs in mid 1999.

Thief's fame came about in the old days with his underground mix tapes, many of which would sell out third and fourth runs of production. In more recent years he's produced in the Hard House/Nu NRG style and his track 'Lets Do It' was released nationally on a Dance Compilation CD back in 1999, and whilst on the production side, he's also been busy tunning up the studio for the last 7 or so years and has already produced a shit load of tracks and now with the joining of 2 great studios he teams up with the likes of Syst'O Crew DJ BJ, together they have an arsenal of Equipment and are set to tune in with first of the ranks.

Right Now DJ Thief has teamed up with legendary DJ / Producer the Berzerker who are currently working on a top secret project which is sure to take us all by surprise.
